Careers Advisor

Belinda Wallace

My name is Belinda Wallace and I am the Careers Advisor for St Pius X High School.

Careers Education at St Pius X High School aims to provide a program dedicated to assisting each student in making informed decisions about their career pathways, inclusive of school and post-school education, training and employment options.

The Careers program at St Pius X is primarily focused on Year 9 and 10 students. Year 9 students are introduced to a program of employment through career information sessions. These sessions cover job applications, covering letter techniques, resume writing, interview skills and introduction to tax and superannuation.

In Year 10, students are invited to undertake work experience and attend one Career lesson per term which covers individual career exploration, the Higher School Certificate (HSC) including HSC rules, options and subject selection, as well as post-school options such as apprenticeships, traineeships, University and TAFE pathways.

In addition to these programs, guest speakers from several key industries are invited to present at school –  these include the Australian Defence Force, the University of Newcastle and TAFE Hunter Institute. Students are encouraged to participate in out-of-school career promotional events like University and TAFE pathway information sessions, Career and Training Expos and Try a Trade events. Students are also offered training opportunities in First Aid and Construction Workplace Health and Safety Inductions (White Card).

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
