Careers Information

Welcome to Careers !

This webpage has been designed to provide students and parents with information and resources for Careers education.

My name is Lisa McCarthy, I am the Careers Advisor for St Pius X High School.  I am available on a Monday and Tuesday and welcome appointments from both parents and students. Appointments can be made by contacting or phoning Student Services on 4013 2634.

Careers Education at St Pius X High School aims to provide a program dedicated to assisting each student in making informed decisions about their career pathways inclusive of school and post school education, training and employment options.

The Careers program at St Pius X High School is primarily focussed on Year 9 and 10 students. Year 9 students are introduced to a program of employment through career information sessions. The sessions cover job applications, covering letter techniques, resume writing, interview skills, introduction to tax and superannuation.

In Year 10, students are invited to undertake work experience, attend one Career lesson per term introducing individual career exploration, the Higher School Certificate (HSC) including HSC rules, options and subject selection as well as post school options such as apprenticeships, traineeships, University and TAFE pathways.

In addition to these programs, guest speakers from several key industries are invited to present at school -  these include the Australian Defence Force, the University of Newcastle and TAFE Hunter Institute. Students are encouraged to participate in out of school career promotional events like University and TAFE pathway information sessions, Career and Training Expo's and Try a Trade events. Students are also offered training opportunities in First Aid and Construction Workplace Health and Safety Inductions (White Card).
