St Pius X High School is a Catholic community that nurtures faith, excellence and lifelong learning.

Vision Statement
We realise our Mission by:
•  Witnessing to Gospel Values and Catholic tradition
•  Ensuring our school is a safe place where all feel that they belong

This is actually quoted from 1Cor.15:28 and was the motto Joseph Sarto chose to guide his pontificate when he became Pope Pius X in 1903.

Our High School at Adamstown is named after St Pius X, Priest, Pope and Saint.  He was the first Pope of the Church selected for canonisation in the 20th Century (1903 – 1914). He is a very fitting patron of a modern high school because of his affinity with young people.
The crest has been designed to acknowledge a number of characteristics of this holy man.
The Triple Tiara of the Popes and the Crossed Keys of St Peter, together with the Cross and Orb, recognise his kingship and the history of his office.
Since St Pius was once the Patriarch of Venice, (the city of St Mark the Evangelist), we include the Winged Lion of St Mark.
The Star of Hope and the Anchor of Faith complete the symbolism of our Crest.
As mentioned above, “Instaurare Omnia in Christo” – renewing all things in Christ, is our motto.  By wearing the badge, members of our school community are saying that everything we do, we do for Christ; that in everything we attempt, we will seek Christ’s help and intercession.
It is a very bold statement of faith.  It is also a promise, which requires all members of this family to strive to the limit of their talents to bring God’s kingdom to their lives and the lives of all around them.



*Definitions of Key Terms in Mission Statement: 
Three key words from our Mission Statement require definition.  These are indicated below. 
Faith is a trusting, loving relationship with God.  It is a gift from God.  Having faith means: 
·         Entering into a lifelong journey of discovery about ourselves and God and consequent renewal of ourselves.
·         Trusting the person of God in a relationship the same way we would trust a parent, family member or close friend.
·         Entrusting ourselves to God; putting our security in God.
·         Trusting that what God has said is true, taking God at His word.
·         Knowing that God loves us and wants us to draw close to Him.
·         As Catholics, we live our faith in the context of community, nurtured by prayer, Sacrament and celebration.
·         We live as growing disciples of Jesus through our loving actions and compassion for those less fortunate.
Excellence is the development of knowledge, understanding and skills that are outstanding in one or more fields of endeavour.  In nurturing excellence we are aiming to assist every student to achieve to their full potential.
Lifelong Learning refers to learning that prepares students to live and work in the 21st century.  The NSW Syllabuses for the new Australian Curriculum and the Religious Studies Syllabus of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle attempt to do this by providing students with:
·         Discipline-based learning within specific subject areas; and
·         Learning across the curriculum including contemporary themes, general capabilities and other important learning.

Two important goals in nurturing lifelong learning are to assist students to learn how to learn and to attempt to enable students to become responsible for their own learning.  The development of a growth mindset assists in both of these goals.  In a growth mindset learners understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, practice, quality teaching and persistence.
